Update to Website, finally!

Well it's only taken me a year or two to update my website and longer than that to add to my blog - hopefully the wait will be worth it for those of you who like my work.

The frightening milestone of a half century on the planet is creeping up on me fast. So I figured this is the perfect time to not only update my website with my newest work but to also build my online archives with my early paintings and drawings. It's very uplifting to see what you have created for the past twenty years all in one place. As one who suffers from endless self-doubt you can't imagine how positive an affect this has on me.

On the newly updated website I've included my first ever painting from back in 1991. It's titled "The Light Came On" and was created the morning after an emotionally wrenching evening when a woman I was "courting" gave me the heave-ho. Well, she was actually very nice about but it hit me very hard and the next morning I woke up and began painting. The painting came out in about an hour or two and I just sat and stared at it for a long time. It was all happy shock and delight that something like this was able to come out of me. I was hooked on painting from there on out and my desire to paint and create art has not waned since.

The woodworked painting at right is my newest painting "King of the Trees" that was the centerpiece of my solo show "The Air That I Breathe" last May at Future Studio Gallery. If you were unable to attend the show, all of the work that was in the show is up on the website now. Check it out - I would love to hear your comments about the work.

One last note: my previous attempts at starting a blog have not been maintained in the past but I will make a better effort this time. Some days may only be a picture or two and some thoughts but I will make this promise to myself and to you that I will post something every week from here on out. Keep your fingers crossed and wish me luck.

Enjoy your life and talk with you soon.

Back to writing

OK, so I've been very "non-bloggy" on my blog. Best intentions though, really. There's simply way too much to do in this life other than sitting down to write out a bunch of my thoughts that maybe 3 people will read. So I think I will make things very easy on myself from here on out and just post a picture and some short thoughts. And this will be whenever I get a free moment - which I can't promise will be very often, but let's just see how it goes, huh?

Here's a photo of a drawing that I am working on today.

I have a solo show in February 2010 at Future Studio in Highland Park and I am working on drawings and paintings for that show.

Your comments are always welcome. Enjoy!

August 27, 2008

So here I go walking blindly into the Forest of Blogs. Not sure what I really think of spewing my thoughts out into the universe and all but, what the hell, let's give it a try. Isn't that what making art is all about anyway? Getting it out of my head and into the public square? Maybe this blog will help me track my progress as an artist. Maybe not. Hopefully it will give me an insight into how an idea becomes tangible art. And maybe you the reader, the art lover, the audience will gain some insight into how an artwork develops from a seedling of an idea. Then again, with the millions of blogs out there maybe no one will notice this one and none of it will actually matter. We'll see, won't we?
This blog is meant to be a repository for all my creative ideas, sketches, plans, works-in-progress, etc. It will be filled with photos of drawings, paintings, sculptures, writings, maybe an occasional video. Anything that inspires me that I think others might enjoy or be inspired by. And if you like anything you see or read here please feel free to send it to your friend in China, Tajikistan, Romania, Hungary or anywhere in the world that you have friends. Spread the word. Use my images for wallpaper, print them and give them out to everyone you know. My work needs to rise above the increasingly sludgy tide of art school graduates. Just don't try to print a million of them and sell them for profit, 'cause then I'll have to hunt you down and sue you.
On that note, I will also offer my opinions on various subjects related to the Arts and other subjects as well - it's hard for me to resist the opportunity to lend my voice at times, know what I'm sayin'?
The image above is a new ink drawing I've been working on recently. Trees fascinate me. I will probably develop this drawing into a painting soon. Keep you posted on that. In the meantime, happy viewing and happy reading!
